The 18-hole championship course, located about 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia, rambles on golf grounds that were formerly an old dairy farm in the hills of northern Chester County. It s just a couple of miles from the notorious, long-defunct Pennhurst Asylum that is now a haunted house tourist attraction. Spring Hollow Golf Club, a John Thompson design from 1994 spreads out on pleasant rolling terrain with 110 feet of elevation change between its highest and lowest points. A couple of big hills account for much of that variance. The tree-lined course offers abundant shade that can provide welcome relief in the heat. Spring Hollow Golf Club, a par-70 test, features four sets of tee markers that offer distance options between 4,962 yards and 6,018 yards. The round starts off with one of the hardest tests of the day a long par 4 that begins from a chute of trees near the clubhouse. Holes 2 through 8 play across a highway in their own tranquil realm (accessed via a tunnel). Variety is the game at Spring Hollow Golf Club, a 35-35 routing configuration with five par 3s, ten par 4s, and five par 5s. The unique back nine features three par 3s and two par 5s with back-to-back par 3s followed by back-to-back par 5s. The round also concludes with a par 3 backdropped by the clubhouse. You'll find many doglegs, including some that bend at striking angles. Water, in the form of wetlands, a pond, and a creek, enters the fray on five holes on the back nine. Spring Hollow Golf Club s generous fairways make for a playing field that golfers of wide-ranging skill levels can enjoy. Just be sure to negotiate the doglegs and stay out of the trees and thick vegetation lining the playing corridors. Practice facilities at Spring Hollow Golf Club are limited. There s a putting green but no driving range. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a bar and grille that is a popular dining spot in Spring City for more than just golfers.
