One of the Houston area's most popular public golf courses, Jersey Meadow Golf Course is an enjoyable layout that will test golfers' ability to manage their game and overcome obstacles. The par-70 course, which measures 6,645 yards from the back tees, is certainly no pushover. The front side is a par 34 and still 3,139 yards, as the first three holes, all par 4s, are well over 400 yards, making this as tough a starting stretch as you'll find anywhere. But there are four sets of tees, starting at just 4,737 yards. In fact, there's an additional set called the "Fun Tees" at just over 3,000 yards, which makes the course great for juniors and short hitters. Built on the site of an old air ranch, Jersey Meadow opened in 1956. At one point, the course was 27 holes, but was later contracted to 18. It was originally designed by Bob Simmons with a renovation by Carlton Gipson in 1992. While it is fairly flat overall, some of the greens complexes are elevated with lots of bunkers, making a good short game a must. There are water features that come into play on almost half the holes, and some of those aren't easily seen from the tee, so golfers have to pay attention on the tee. In addition to the golf course, Jersey Meadow also has a full driving range, short-game area and practice putting green. A fully stocked golf shop can be found in the clubhouse. And there's also a snack bar serving drinks, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs.
