    Golfmohr Golf Club

16724 Hubbard Rd, East Moline, Illinois, 61244-9788

The large gently undulating greens are superbly manicured as well as the 24 acres of fairways. The gently rolling terrain makes walking easy. Adding beauty and hazards to the course are four man made lakes, which provide some five acres of water on the course. The first permanent farms were established in the Hampton area in the early 1800's. Several of the families along Hubbard Road near Golfmohr Golf Club have farmed the same land for as long as 170 years! In 1867, the Mohr family established a farm on the present site of Golfmohr Golf Club. Descendants of the Mohr family still live on the properties adjacent to the golf course and the original homestead. For 98 years the Mohrs farmed the site that would eventually become “Golfmohr”. During a portion of this time, two coal mines were in operation on the property as well. A capped mineshaft still exists behind the 14th tee. Also, for a time, an apple orchard existed on what is now the 8th and 9th fairway. We have recently planted 50 apple trees on the golf course to commemorate that part of our history. In the early 1960's, the then owners of the land, Jake and Lorraine Mohr, were attempting to convert the property from a farm to a public campground. A chance meeting changed the course of history for the Mohr's and for the land. Jake Mohr met Ted Lockie in 1963. Ted, a PGA golf professional was to become prominent in local golf lore. In addition to being an expert golfer and creative inventor who held many patents, Ted was a golf course architect who designed and built nearly 50 courses, primarily in the Midwest. Jake Mohr and Ted Lockie formed a partnership that combined the land owned by Jake and Lorraine Mohr with the design and construction expertise of Ted Lockie. Golfmohr Golf Club was created in 1963 and in 1965 the 18-hole course located on 148-acre tract opened for business as a daily fee facility. Green fees were $2.00, and memberships were $90.00 per year. Jake and Ted remained partners for seven years and both lived on the property. Jake and Lorraine lived in a new home next to the 10th tee, next door to the old, original farmhouse next to the 12th fairway. Ted and Alma Lockie lived in a home built behind the 8th green. In 1972, Ted and Alma Lockie retired to Florida and sold their interest in Golfmohr to Jake and Lorraine Mohr. In 1982, Jake and Lorraine Mohr made a decision to sell the course due to health reasons. The course was sold in 1982 to Quad Cities USA Golf Course Corporation. From 1982 to the present time, Golfmohr Golf Club has been owned and operated by this small corporation. Dennis Marker is the President of Quad Cities Golf Course Corporation. His wife Mary and son David serve on the Board of Directors. Many changes and upgrades have been made to Golfmohr in the decades under the current owners. Most recently a complete replacement of the irrigation system. Golfmohr's new state of the art irrigation system allowed us to remain green even thru the drought of 2005. Also, over 400 trees and shrubs have been planted during this time. Thirty-one new tees have been added, making Golfmohr play significantly longer and shorter. We now offer 5 sets of tees playing at over 6,900 yards from the tips as well as a forward set of tees playing under 5,000 yards enables golfers to select a yardage most enjoyable for him or her. We are proud to be the first golf course in the Quad City area to introduce twilight and senior rates. Something that every other daily fee course has emulated. We also introduced weekday and seven-day memberships, with or without riding privileges. The former golf car fleet of 30 cars has been expanded to the current 86 golf cars. A picnic pavilion was constructed and later expanded for seating for over 150. We have a strong sense of the history here at Golfmohr Golf Club. We consider ourselves the current caretakers with an obligation to carry on the tradition of the finest playing conditions, the best service at affordable prices. We hope you will join us in continuing the Golfmohr tradition.
