The University Club of Kentucky s Big Blue Course is one of the best and most popular courses you can play in Lexington. Over the years,?this most highly rated of the two Arthur Hills-designed eighteens that make up the 36-hole club has been a fixture on Golf Advisor's list of the Top Courses in Kentucky. ?It has also appeared on Golf Advisor's honor roll of the Top College?Courses in the U.S. Though?The University Club of Kentucky?is not owned by the University of Kentucky, the school s golf teams practice there. Contrasting with the club's adjacent, narrow, and tree-lined Wildcat Course, the University Club of Kentucky s Big Blue Course is longer and more open. It s certainly a tough test, but five sets of tee markers give players a chance to find a comfortable distance between 4,874 yards and 7,013 yards on this par-72 playing field that features bent grass from tee to green. Wind and water are big factors on the broad-shouldered layout. While the par-3 8th hole boasts an island green, the strong and varied back nine of the University Club of Kentucky s Big Blue Course is full of lakes and ponds that lend beauty, excitement and intimidation. A couple of holes coming home require heroic ?shots over aquatic hazards and into undulating greens. Be sure to pick up a course guide so you ll be aware of any hidden trouble and the size of the greens. Aside from a couple of hills, the University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course is predominantly flat. You ll see plenty of players walking the course. The University Club of Kentucky s Big Blue Course shares a clubhouse and practice facilities with the Wildcat Course. You can warm up on the driving range and a green for chipping and putting. The clubhouse is home to the pro shop, a restaurant that is open seasonally (mid-March through the beginning of November), a pavilion for large gatherings, and the Hall of Heroes that honors the University of Kentucky s greatest teams and athletes.
