Offering a challenging and beautiful golf course, Whitecourt Golf & Country Club is a facility that?s home for many and welcoming to visitors. The course, which is adjacent to the historic Athabasca River, is a Les Furber design that opened in 1991. The golf course, which plays 6,889 yards from the back tees, is known to be especially accommodating to juniors and young golfers, who receive a lot of encouragement from the club. But it?s a good test for all players. Two of the hardest holes on this tree-lined course, which has no homes or highways next to it, are the 420-yard fourth and 440-yard 16th, both of which are par 4s. Not only are they long, but water can come into play on every shot. The course is also a tale of two nines. The front nine is a little higher than the back, with tree-lined fairways, lots of bunkers, but little in the way or water features. The back is more open and follows a slow-moving creek. The 18th is a great risk-reward par 5. It plays just more than 500 yards, and water comes into play on the final approach. The course has average size greens with plenty of undulation. Besides the golf course, Whitecourt Golf & Country Club also has a driving range, chipping green, and practice putting green. Lessons from PGA pros as well as club-fitting are also offered. Inside the clubhouse you?ll find a well-stocked golf shop as well as a full-service restaurant. The menu includes classic breakfasts, appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, and even steaks, once a month.
